Invitation to Register Aboriginal cultural heritage and Archaeological assessment for the proposed Mt Piper Battery Energy Storage System EnergyAustralia is investigating the development of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of up to 500MW and a duration of up to 4 hours, to be strategically located adjacent to the Mt Piper power station site near Lithgow. This opportunity has the potential to provide significant social and economic benefits should it proceed. It will be capable of deploying power for up to four hours at times when demand for electricity is high, helping to support future energy security in New South Wales as coal generation retires and more renewables enter the system. Energy Australia LIGHT THE WAY Building this adjacent to EnergyAustralia's existing power generation site should allow us to utilise existing infrastructure and avoid the need to construct new overhead power lines across private land. If approved, it could also provide an economic boost to the Central West region as coal- fired power stations retire and help to transform it into a renewable energy hub. EnergyAustralia is committed to meaningful community consultation and engagement with stakeholders as planning progresses and invites registration from local Aboriginal groups and people with respect to the proposed project. The purpose of this consultation with Aboriginal communities is to assist EnergyAustralia in the preparation of a considered and well-informed Aboriginal cultural heritage and Archaeological assessment for the proposed Mt Piper BESS. EnergyAustralia invites Aboriginal people and Aboriginal groups and stakeholders who hold cultural knowledge relevant to determining the significance of Aboriginal objects and places in the Mt Piper BESS project area to register their interest in participating in this stage of community consultation. Please forward registrations to EnergyAustralia no later than Monday 6th February 2023, via phone, email or mail to: Mick Hanly community@energyaustralia.com.au 0457 002 524 350 Boulder Road, Portland NSW 2847 Please be advised that if you register an interest in consultation, your details will be forwarded to the Heritage NSW and Local Aboriginal Land Council, unless you specify that you do not want your details released.
